Does life feel blah some days? Almost like you’re living in limbo, waiting for something that will give you a sense of being connected again?
That sense of living in limbo comes from expecting that after the covid restrictions were lifted life would return to ‘normal’, only things haven’t gone back to the way they were, and there’s still that sense of waiting for something to change. It has a name: languishing is that feeling when there’s nothing wrong but also nothing particularly right! Listless and lacklustre also describe it – no motivation or sense of purpose and your sense of pleasure and delight is dull.
The remedy is to:
* do something that gives you a sense of accomplishment, however small the task or project. What matters is the sense of achievement.
* become immersed in a task so it takes your full focus and you feel connected to the outcome.
* do something that matters, that makes you feel that you matter! It doesn’t need to be profound - having fun with your family matters.
* get in touch with your emotions, and seek ways to connect emotionally with other people. Gratitude is a good one to start with. Awe is another – noticing the small marvels around you. Nature is full of awe-some things! Literally stop and smell the roses.
It is important that you get out of this emotional slump. Improving the quality of your life and renewing your interest in your work and career can prevent the risk of eventually sliding into depression. If you feel stuck and need some motivation with a new sense of direction give me a call. I’ve got myself and some clients out of this state. I’d love to help you too.
What awe-some thing have you noticed today?
