Time to spring clean your mindset!

By Marion Nixon

Here in Cape Town we’re experiencing a cold front, a really cold one! I’m hoping it is the last ‘kick of winter’ and soon the days will get warmer… September is spring in the south and as a ‘season of change’ is an iffy month weather-wise.

Thinking about change, I remembered someone saying that change is always messy. Messy can be lots of things happening in a short time period, or things not happening as planned, or physically messy as recently happened for me. However the messiness shows up on the outside, there’s usually – I’d say always – something shifting on the inside as well.

If you’re only aware of the external messiness, take some time to look within. What is feeling messy inside you? What changes are brewing below the surface? Maybe there’s a good change happening, or there’s an inner ‘upside’ to an external change that feels turbulent and upsetting. Sometimes it’s only after the dust has settled that we can see the benefit in what we’ve been through. That’s what is happening for me. External change that didn’t seem significant to me personally at the time has since caused me to reflect on my relationship with my siblings (in a good way!) and to reassess the sense of purpose that directs and motivates my work, helping me take it to a deeper level.

Spring is traditionally a time for spring cleaning, clearing out unneeded things and freshening up your home. Have you thought about an internal spring clean -changing the unhelpful thought patterns, the limiting beliefs, the self-criticism for new, encouraging, uplifting thoughts? You’ll be surprised at the external changes that creates!

I run a 4 week ‘Self-talk Spring Clean’ course that will help you do just that! Choose one thing you want to change or achieve, and in 4 weeks you’ll identify and change your inner self talk that’s blocking the results you want. If you’re feeling stuck in any area of your life, this is quick and easy way to get things moving again.
