How would you like to feel?

December is a strange month. The first part seems to fly by and then it slows down in the last week… For many it’s a time of fun and excitement, and for others it’s a time of pain and loneliness.

How do you feel during this festive season?
Do you get caught up in the fun and excitement or do you participate without enjoying it?
Do you feel left out and wish you could have more fun and social activity?
Are you missing loved ones?

If you had a choice, how would you want to feel at this time?  Excited, playful, relaxed, peaceful?

You can choose how you feel. Not in a false way as that becomes toxic positivity, but by becoming aware of how you really feel, then deciding how you would like to feel, and what you need to change to feel that way. You may not be able to change external things, and definitely can’t change other people, but you can change yourself.

Here are two quick and easy things that will shift your mood.
1. Breathing. Remember the injunction to take 10 deep breaths before reacting in anger?  And making your out breath longer than you in breath will calm you in any situation.
2. Exercise. This causes your body to produce endorphins, the feel good hormones, so a few minutes of exercise to raise your heart rate will give you an emotional and an energy lift (as well as clear your mind).

Longer term, changing your perspective on life can take time. The starting point is acceptance of yourself as you are now. (So use my ebook to reprogramme your inner critic.) When you stop judging yourself, it’s easier to choose to do or see things differently. It’s also easier to be guided and supported through this process than to do it on your own.
