You can’t fail at reaching a goal

Wow, it’s a year since I started writing my weekly blogs.  When I started I only had ideas for the first 3 or 4. Once I started, the ideas kept coming – till I got ill before Christmas and had to take a few weeks out. Recuperating gave me a good rest so I’m now ready for the new year.

Looking back at last year my first thought was that my year was hijacked by a family situation that took some months to resolve. Then I realised that in that experience I had overcome a personal block I hadn’t realised was holding me back, so although I didn’t achieve all that I had intended for the year, I had a significant breakthrough that will make achieving this year’s goals so much easier.

And interestingly, just this week I read a statement by a business coach that there is no such thing as failing to reach a goal. If you don’t reach your stated goal it’s because you reached a different one that satisfied a deeper need. That sums up my experience last year. Have you had a similar experience? I’d love to hear about it.

If you are feeling disappointed about not achieving something and your inner critic insists you have failed, call me for a chat. Sometimes being heard and supported helps ease the pain, and then it becomes easier to see the experience from a different perspective that includes some benefit.  As the saying goes, a burden shared is a burden halved.
